Festive Woven Wreath Workshop

Festive Woven Wreath Workshop

taught by Emily Nicolaides

Let’s weave our own wreaths! In this circular weaving workshop, we’ll use a sculptural technique called rya loops to create dimensional, unique wreaths in the festive color way of your choice. With a selection of colorful chunky weight yarns at your disposal, you’ll have everything you need to craft a stunning heirloom that you’ll enjoy year after year. This workshop is great for beginners or intermediate weavers interested in learning the basics of circular weaving.

Emily Nicolaides (@emilynicolaides) is a Cypriot-American artist and author known for her innovative approach to circular weaving. With over a decade of experience, her work merges attention to craftsmanship with themes of personal and collective cycles, meditation, and identity. Her research-based art practice delves deeply into the possibilities and boundaries of weaving in circular forms, transforming ancient techniques into art for the modern age. Emily’s work has been exhibited internationally, earning inclusion in private and commercial spaces around the world. She participated in the Penland Winter Residency and invitational Pentaculum Residency, where she honed her skills and deepened her engagement with traditional techniques. With this experience, Emily has taught weaving to more than 1000 students through in-person and virtual workshops. Then in September 2022, she published her first book, Amazing Circular Weaving, with Abrams Books (US) and Search Press (UK). Emily is proud to offer her intensive knowledge of the creative potential of circular weaving to the crafting community at large.

I am absolutely thrilled to host Emily for another workshop at the Craft Room! She is an inspiration and innovator in the weaving community!
